Building a Network of Access

As of October 7, 2026, the No Can Left Behind Project has partnered with 18 community organizations across 5 counties in 2 states, providing can openers that can be distributed to individuals and families as needs arise.

To date, 451 can openers have been donated to our community partners, with an additional 4 can openers given directly to individuals.

Because our community partners may keep can openers on hand for future needs, the number donated to partner organizations does not represent the number of individual people who have received a can opener.

The No Can Left Behind Project currently has 56 can openers on hand to support future community partnerships and distribution.

Every can opener helps remove one small but important barrier between having food and being able to access it.

No Can Left Behind Project: End of June 2026 Community Impact Update

The No Can Left Behind Project continues to grow thanks to the support of our community, local organizations, sponsors, and partners who believe that food should not only be available — it should be usable.

As of the end of June 2026, the project has received 268 donated can openers and has distributed 196 can openers to help individuals and families who may rely on canned goods but do not have access to the tool needed to open them.

No Can Left Behind Project: End of July 2026 Community Impact Update

The No Can Left Behind Project continues to grow thanks to the support of our community, local organizations, sponsors, and partners who believe that food should not only be available — it should be usable.

As of the end of July 2026, the No Can Left Behind Project has received 346 donated can openers and distributed 235 through local community partners, helping to ensure these essential tools reach individuals and families experiencing food insecurity.

We are also grateful to share that the project has now served 11 community organizations, received support from 8 community sponsors, and established 4 donation drop-off sites throughout the Michiana region. In addition, we have donated 5 bags of food and fulfilled 1 individual request for assistance. Our efforts have been recognized through features in two community newsletters and an upcoming issue of Elkhart Living Magazine, helping raise awareness of our mission and expand our reach within the community. The mission remains simple: Access to food starts with the right tools.

We currently have 35 can openers on hand to continue supporting food pantries, community organizations, service providers, and individuals in need.
